Harlow RUFC started to build a ladies section in the late 1990s and it was officially launched with a press release in September 2000. The squad consisted of about 20 potential players most learning the game from scratch. I was not until the later part of the 2001-2 season that they were able to field a team; playing two friendly fixtures and winning both. The following season they played a few more friendly games before applying for league membership in the 2003-4 season. In their first two seasons they finished in the top half of their league and showed steady improvement beating teams that had been established for many years.
