A series of simplified versions of rugby for boys and girls in the age range 6 to 11.
They play in year groups with teams from Under 7 through to Under 12. All age groups are calculated from the 1st September.
How does it differ from the adult game?
Teams have smaller numbers and fewer and simpler laws of the game. At each age group team sizes and laws are
chosen to match the size and ability of the children.
In the younger age groups there is no physical contact, the game is based on basic running and ball handling skills.
Each year as the children progress to the next age group a few more aspects of the game are introduced. So that by the time they
leave the Mini/Midi rugby at the age of 12 they can start to play the full 15-a-side game.
Can boys and girls both play?
Yes in all teams up to the Under 12 boys and girls play together and more to the point with equal success.
Is there a risk my child will be put under too much stress playing rugby?
No although we want to help the children to reach their full potential the emphasis is on fun rather than elitism.
We do not go flat out to win at all costs and every child who attends training will also play in the matches. This is not
only Club policy it is a strict directive from the RFU our governing body.

How is Mini Rugby Organised at Harlow Rugby Club
We have a team for each age (year) group from under 7 to under 12. All ages are calculated on the basis of
a player's age on 1st September at the start of the season.
Each team is under the supervision of a manager and at least one RFU qualified coach.
Sessions are organised at the club on Sunday Mornings from 10.30 to 12.30.
Some weeks are devoted to training
and others to home and away matches. Matches take place roughly one week in three.
All our Coaches and Mangers who work with young people must have CRB clearance and we have a Club Child Safety Officer to supervise this process
The Club frequently arranges St. John's recognised First Aid courses and ensures there is at least one qualified first aider working with each team, often more
If you click the "Join Us" button on this page and complete the very short form we will put you in touch with an
Advisor who will tell you about playing rugby for Harlow and will arrange for you to visit the club to find out
more.
Parents are welcome to bring children interested in joining to
a training session. You can watch the session and we will explain what we have to offer.
It helps if you phone first so that we can make sure someone is on hand to talk to you.
Making prior contact is important on those weekends when we are playing away as all our Managers may be travelling with the teams.
